Origami Dollar $hirt

Here's an idea for Father's day: Use a dollar from your allowance to make a $hirt for your dad! Already spent your money? No worries - just use a rectangular piece of paper!

1. Find a dollar or cut a piece of paper 2 1/2 inches by 6 inches.

2. Fold in half lengthwise.

3. Unfold. Fold one side lengthwise from the edge of the paper to the center fold from step 2. Fold the other side.

4. Unfold. Fold the top two corners down. This will make a triangle shape.

5. Fold the triangle down. Crease. Unfold.

6. See where the white is on the tip of the triangle? Make a slanted fold from the side of one edge of the white to the top of the center fold. Make an equal slanted fold on the other side. This is the beginning of the "tie"!

7. Slightly squeeze the triangle. Fold the paper underneath the "tie" folds. Make the folds meet. Crease.

8. Press down. The center fold line on the tie should line up with the center dollar bill fold (the first fold you made). The top of the dollar bill will no longer look like a triangle, the top will slant downwards from the center. We'll call it the "hill".

9. Remember the creases you made in step 3? Use those creases to fold the sides of the bill inward.

10. Place your thumb inside the side hold. Push up until the fold lines up with the slant at the top of the bill.

11. Do the same with the other side.

12. This is how the hill should look right now!

13. See the white bit at the bottom of the bill? Fold that bit up. That will be the collar.

14. Place your thumb a bit under the tie. Fold backwards. Crease. The tie should be facing you. The little fold that you made at the bottom of the bill should now be at the top and facing away from you. Again, this is the collar.

15. Fold the points of the collar in. Each point should touch the center crease.

16. Make the tips of the collar line up with the hill. Fold into place.

17. Make another fold where the dollar hits the bottom corners of the hill. Crease.

18. It should look like this from the front!

19. Unfold the creases. Turn upside down. Pull the side of the bill outwards. Pinch at the centers. This will create the sleeves.

20. Do the same with the other side.

21. This is how it'll look from the back.

22. Pull up the collar area back up. Fold forward. The points of the collar should fit over the over the very top of the shirt.

Done!

Here's a  snapshot of the tutorial - perfect for Pinning!

  2. So cute! My nephews ask for money every Christmas, which I find so boring. At least this next year I can get a little creative. :-)
